Today at church, a very good friend of mine, Deb, was preaching about how we need to start random acts of kindness. I know for me at least, 2012 was a hard year. My church lost many of our members who passed into Heaven. I lost two very close friends. We had the shooting only two weeks ago. The economy seems to be getting worse. This year has been a rough one.
This blog will be about how we, as Americans or even generalizing it more – humans, need to start random acts of kindness. I am sure all you of you have done something nice to someone whether it was a stranger or someone you know. But how often do you do it? I know I always mean to do a nice thing to someone every day or every so often. But I am seemed to be ‘busy’ or sucked into this routine that makes me forget.
You will be amazed how just a simple thing can make a person’s day a lot better. Now I know some of you might say, but I am just too busy or I don’t have any money to give out or some type of excuse. But really even just a simple smile to someone can brighten that person’s day. I am always smiling and my friends would tell you the same thing. Why have a frown on your face throughout the day just because of one thing or you don’t feel well, don’t bring everyone else’s day down because of you.
Just as Deb challenged me, I am going to challenge you. During your making of New Year’s resolutions add this to your list. Try to put it into your routine to do at least single random act of kindness each day of this upcoming year, 2013. It is okay if you miss a day or so, just do it the next day.
With my twin sister, we made a list for January which we will do each month. But I’d like to say that the pictures are not meant to be a show. I do not want a competition on this that is not my intent. But I just everyone to have the experience I have when I am able to put a smile upon someone’s face.
Have you ever heard of photoaday challenge? Well this is kind of like it except random acts of kindness has been incorporated. This is a way to get involved in the community and inspire you to be a role model and a giver of kindness.
We would like to stress that you do not have to take the photos. We are mainly focused on the act itself. If you do choose to do the photo part, it is not for show. It is simple to inspire others.
Each month we will present you with a list of random acts. You just use a camera (any really works as long as it can take pictures) and snap a photo of your act. Yes we are well aware that some acts cannot be captured but we thought of a solution for this. BE CREATIVE.
If you are still stuck this is what we thought.
Suppose you have ‘pay for the next person’s meal.’ Take a photo of your meal.
You can share the photos on all sorts of social media sites. It is always fun to see what other people did and be inspired or challenged by what they did.
If you used Instagram or Twitter, use this hashtag (#swkindphotoact)
If you used Facebook, you can upload it to your own personal profile, your business page, and/or our blogs’ page. Found here.
Oh no! You skipped a day! That is totally fine! There is nothing wrong with that. Instead just do two random acts for one day. Or you can just leave it be.
Again we would like to strongly stress that the photos are not for show but just to inspire.
